TPH3006PS Device Garners Award for Innovative Advancement in Discrete Semiconductors
Goleta, CA – January 24, 2014 – Transphorm Inc. is pleased to announce that it has been honored with Electronic Products’ Product of the Year Award for its TPH3006PS GaN (Gallium Nitride) device, the first 600V HEMT (High Electron Mobility Transistor) in the industry to be JEDEC qualified.
The editors of Electronic Products—a leading trade publication for electronic design engineers—evaluated thousands of products launched in 2013. The winning products were selected on the basis of innovative design, significant advancement in technology or application and substantial achievement in price and performance. Transphorm’s TPH3006PS GaN demonstrated success in the “Discrete Semiconductor” category based on its ability to enable compact, lower-cost power electrical systems and devices, such as power supplies and adapters, PV Inverters for solar panels, motor drives, and power conversion for electric vehicles.
“The TPH3006PS GaN HEMT combines low switching and conduction losses, which results in reduced energy loss of 50% compared to conventional silicon-based power conversion designs,” said Paul O’Shea, editor of Electronic Products. “Features of this winning device include: a compact TO-220 package, an RDS(on) of 150 mΩ, a Qrr of 56 nC and high-frequency switching capability.” O’Shea went on to say, “A Shakespeare line from ‘A midsummer Night’s Dream’ came to mind about this product as it made its way through the PoY challenge rounds: ‘Though she be but little she is fierce’.”
